Try out playing with poetry for free
Thursday 3 September | 7–8pm UK time | Online
Poetry is for playing with: poetry is for everyone.
Join a free poem-writing workshop and create a surprising new poem, whether you've never written a line or live and breathe for the stuff.
Through a guided writing process, you'll explore:
- finding imagery outside your usual go-tos
- using an extended motif
- how small constraints create more original choices
- the fun of writing to discover
Everyone's welcome, from seasoned poets to complete newbies: this is a play space.
Sign up by 4pm on Thursday 3 September to join.
‘Megan does a superb job in sharing her love and enthusiasm for poetry which worked well for a poetic novice such as myself.’ – David ‘So well taught that a total beginner and an experienced poet can gain insights at every level seamlessly.’ – Carolyne
- What's an online workshop like?
Lively, friendly, and supportive: you'll do independent guided writing, and compare notes in small groups of 3–4.
- Do I need to have any writing experience?
Nope: if you're starting from scratch, you'll have all the guidance you need. If you're already experienced, you'll explore new approaches.
- Do I have to share my writing?
Not at all. In the small-group discussions, you'll compare notes on the process.
- Will there be a replay?
No: this is a live workshop only. (I'll record it to make it available in future, but no-one on the workshop will be on the recording, just me.)
- Will I have my video and audio on?
Yes: at times, you'll be chatting with other students in small groups. If you have connection issues, it can help to turn video off, but generally it's friendlier if we can all see each other. (And again, you won't be on the recorded version.)
- Will we get notes?
No: it's a guided process, so the writing you create in the workshop will chart what you did.
- Will I be flooded with emails afterwards?
Nope! You'll be added to my usual newsletter, which lets you choose how many emails you get, from one a month (for inbox-minimalists like me) to all the emails (usually 2–3 a week). Just click your choice at the bottom of any email.
‘Somehow Megan has this gift of freeing you up to write and have fun.’ – Shan ‘Megan's teaching style is so much fun and it never fails to stimulate my creativity.’ – Anita
